AHAC Charity Dinner and Fashion Show
Americans Helping Asian Children (AHAC), a non-profit organization founded by Dr. Bruce Johnson, has been making trips to Vietnam to bring hearing aids to disadvantaged children. The volunteers for AHAC have also contributed to other projects including building and improving schools and bridges in rural parts of Vietnam as well as supporting handicapped children and giving them a chance for education.
This year, on November 6, 2005, AHAC hosted its annual charity dinner to raise money for their multiple projects in Vietnam. The dinner took place at Jasmine Restaurant. The dinner chair-person, Mrs. Lan Nguyen-Huu, prepared a live entertainment program including a Vietnamese fashion show as well as dance and music performances by local talent.

Ms. Anh Nguyen, of Angel Bridal and Tailoring, sponsored the Vietnamese fashion show which featured eight new dresses (ao dai) designed for the occasion. The theme for the first act was a presentation of Vietnam’s distinct ao dai from the three regions followed by a wedding ao dai, white school-girl ao dai, and modernized ao dai. The second performance featured the “four colors of love” with the models wearing Angel Bridal’s creations in blue-green, pink, purple, and yellow. Several of the fashion show models are active members of the Vietnamese Federation of San Diego, including Thuy Vo, vice president external, and Xuyen Vo.

Among the guests present were Nghiep Le, the VFSD’s president and his wife. The event was well attended and helped to not only raise money for disadvantaged children in Vietnam, but bring the Vietnamese and American community together to learn more about ways in which they can help alleviate the plight of these children. |
